Description of impact

The FNR Science Image Competition aims to show the beauty of research and science outreach in Luxembourg. In the 2022 edition, the image by Karolina Zięba-Kulawik (LISER) was awarded in the 'Object of Study' category. In the previous edition, in 2021 FNR Science Image Competition, another image: “Land Surface Temperature” by Karolina Zieba-Kulawik, received 'distinction'.

The FNR Science Image Competition has multiple aims: to show the growing role of images in scientific research, to reveal how scientific work is conducted, to give a face to the researchers conducting it and to present various ways to engage the public with science. The competition also aims to bridge the gap between science & research and the general public, to show the dedication and fascination that fuel the scientists and, last but not least, to inspire the audience and bring it to discover a widely unknown environment. The FNR Science Image Competition was organised for the first time in 2019 on the occasion of the FNR’s 20th anniversary. A second and third edition took place in 2021 and 2022.
