Description
We propose a mixed-methods approach to address various dimensions of the above questions. 1) Literature review: In how far does the existing evidence on social inclusion take into account the heterogeneity of the population of people with disabilities? What is known about differences in the effectiveness of select policies to promote social inclusion, according to relevant sub-groups of people with disabilities (e.g. male-female, young-old, rich-poor, types of disability, severity of disability, living arrangement, etc)2) Quantitative analysisa) Using Luxembourg Census data: Describing and understanding the inclusion of people with disabilities in the labour market in Luxembourg b) Survey of people with disabilities as part of our AP project - this is a survey of 150 people with disabilities, that goes into some depth about respondents' views. This would allow zooming in on potential differences within the group of people with intellectual disabilities, in terms of various indicators of social participation, also related to their (often neglected) leisure time activities. 3) Qualitative analysis: - In order to investigate in further depth selected issues that will have arisen in the above literature review and in particular the quantitative analyses, we undertake semi-structured interviews with a small sample of people with disabilities. We will recruit people from (1) Luxembourg (a country that is lagging behind on its path towards meeting the UN Convention of the Rights for People with Disabilities, for instance in terms of the extent of social inclusion afforded) and (2) from Austria (a country further ahead in terms of social inclusion). This may explore potential gender differences further, suggestions and preferences for social inclusion, barriers/facilitators, etc.
