Abstract

This chapter presents cross-national evidence on the distribution of wealth, its prevalence, and its composition. More detailed analysis is provided for the main components of wealth portfolios: financial assets and real estate with a special focus on home and debt affordability. The emphasis is place on differences that are found across the income distribution?that is, low-, middle-, and high-income groups?and across family types, especially comparing one- and two-parent families.
