Abstract

Is the movement of residents from city centers to the urban periphery coming to an end, as recent evidence from many European countries suggests? Focusing on the case of Switzerland, we find that the recently observed residential attractiveness of city centers was a temporary phase and did not mark a permanent change in the spatial pattern of urbanization.
