Abstract
The European objective of achieving “No Net Land Take” (NNLT) by 2050 represents an ambitious paradigm shift in the fields of urban planning and architecture. However, the primary obstacles to its implementation are not technical in nature, but rather stem from our society’s inability to reform itself in order to attain this fundamental goal. This viewpoint paper reviews the political, economic, and sociocultural barriers that must be overcome to effectively halt the loss of agricultural and natural land.
