Abstract

The magnitude of the recent refugee flows from Ukraine is likely to raise concerns about their impact in destination countries. We briefly review the existing literature that essentially mitigates fears related to negative effects of large refugee inflows. However, we argue that sharing responsibilities across European countries will be crucial to best deal with the current situation. This, in turn, leads us to provide preliminary estimates of the number of refugees who could be distributed across EU27 destinations depending on their absorption capacities.
