Description
This 'DEVMOB_PV' application focuses on Professor Pedro Vicente, the founding scientific director of the NOVAFRICA research center. It is closely linked with Professor Catia Batista's 'DEVMOB_CB' application, considering their marital connection and shared commitment to relocate as a family during a joint sabbatical year. The two proposals have many similarities and common elements. They align with LISER's increasing research focus on development cooperation, especially within the Research Unit on Impact Evaluation of Development Policies, and with Research Luxembourg connected to the LuxAid BRIDGES funding tool. Both professors bring strong technical expertise in fieldworks and randomized controlled trials for development issues, a skillset that needs further development at LISER. Their research activities cover specific topics.
Professor Vicente has made substantial contributions through influential publications exploring the connection between economic development and governance quality, corruption, international migration, mobile banking and insurance, and Islamic radicalization. This is especially significant as it aligns with the priorities of the Luxembourg government to eradicate extreme poverty by fostering sound public management, establishing accountable governance systems, and addressing Islamic radicalization. The inclusion of Professor Pedro Vicente would enhance LISER's expertise in various areas of interest for Luxembourg cooperation, paving the way for the initiation of new research projects that blend academic excellence with societal impact in Luxembourg's partner countries. This proposal outlines comprehensive plans for research, networking, and capacity-building activities, not only benefiting the entire cooperation and development community in Luxembourg but also raising the reputation of Luxembourg institutions in the field.
