Description

Climate change and demographic transition are key political challenges in European countries. Whereas climate change imposes in immediate change in consumption behavior and production technologies, demographic transition challenges social security systems and labour markets. The public authorities may address those issues with fiscal measures: On the one hand, the state can incentivize certain behaviors and investments through taxes; on the other hand, social security systems can provide economic security. Microsimulation models have been developed to analyse the interaction between the tax and social security systems. As new policy issues arise with climate change and demographic change, these models need to be improved and international research cooperation needs to be intensified, as climate change requires collective domestic action and demographic change, accompanied by a shortage of skilled labour, increases the need for international labour mobility and research on it. In addition, the content of teaching at universities must also address these new issues. Therefore, this project aims to transfer the latest findings into education and to create a mutually reinforcing process between education and research. To improve education, the results are integrated into existing curricula. For example, in BSc and MSc courses at partner universities. In order to strengthen the international cooperation in the field of education, postgraduate courses will be created and strengthened, such as - Summer/Winter School in Microsimulation - Junior Research Group - Hybrid Evening Lectures To enhance the quality of our research capacity, we would like to collaborate and develop new approaches in the following areas - Carbon taxes and climate rebate schemes - cross-border commuting - Gender equality in pension Systems
