INTEGR/IMM - Migration duration and socio-cultural integration

Détails du projet

Description

In this project, we will analyze the determinants of migrant integration both theoretically and empirically using first-hand data from Luxembourg and Germany. The integration of first generation immigrants will be tackled both in economic terms (i.e. performance on the labour market) and in social terms (i.e. how migrants invest in social capital with natives and with other migrants). Also, these integration outcomes are intertwined with the way migrants save and spend their money both in the home country (e.g. through remittances) and in the host country (e.g. through investments in illiquid assets such as housing). The project will therefore also study the relationship between migrants' portfolio allocation and their integration and duration profiles. In order to understand the determinants of integration, we will exploit variations in the legal status of immigrants as well as migrant characteristics, including family status / location of family members, networks, cognitive ability, preferences about risk, time discounting and personality traits.
